elcome to Stamping with Sandy J. You have probably reached me from the fabulous Linda Whalley.
Tranquil Tulips was one of the stamp sets that "spoke" to me when I first saw the 2017-2018 Annual Catalogue. I have always loved tulips and have been to Keukenhof tulips fields in The Netherlands twice so far.
Project Recipe
Last Thursday morning when I really should have been cutting and preparing for my Catalogue Launch event, I took out my Tranquil Tulips stamp set and began playing for a couple of hours. I wanted to make that would make my cousin say "wow". She is hosting a workshop later this month and I wanted to create a card I knew she would love. This card is the result, it was the second card I made using this stamp set. I had seen a number of lovely cards on Pinterest using Calypso Coral, Daffodil Delight and Real Red but I wanted to go vintage and both my cousin and I are blue girls. Usually I reach for either Dapper Denim, Night of Navy or Soft Sky with my blues but this time I reached for Marina Mist, a blue I don't usually use. I wanted to go vintage to match the beautiful watercolour wash of the stamps in the set and I thought Marina Mist with Sahara Sand would create the look I was after. This card came together very organically - I didn't plan it at all. I let the card speak to me as I worked on it.
The first stamping I did was with a returning favourite, Timeless Textures. I stamped the leafy image from the stamp set in Sahara Sand in the top left hand and bottom right hand corners of the Soft Sky mat and then all over the two pieces of Sahara Sand cardstock. I then took my trusty sponge dauber and dotted more Sahara Sand all over the Very Vanilla pieces and all around the edges to create an aged vintage look. I also daubed the edges of the Marina Mist card base and the Marina Mist mat.
Then I began stamping my tulips. I used Pear Pizzazz ink for the triple stem stamp and leaves. And then I stamped the tulips using the smaller of the tulip stamps and Marina Mist. I stamped the stamens using Early Expresso ink. I then used Sahara Sand ink to daub the edges and lightly all over the tulip mat piece.
I hadn't decided upon a sentiment at that stage but thought the tulips looked so beautiful that they deserved something special. And I picked up a stamp set that I ordered by complete serendipity, the Just add text stamp set. This set was not on any of my preorder must have, like to have, nice to have lists. I bought it on a whim because when I was finishing my preorder, I went through and checked each stamp set I had ordered and decided I needed another "words" stamp set. I am notorious for ordering image stamp sets and then finding I don't have a lot in the way of sentiment stamp sets. I am a visual! For the last two catalogues I have been trying to correct that tendency by specially choosing one or two sentiment only stamp sets. And so I bought Just add text because I thought of Joe Cocker's song, You are so beautiful to me, when looking at this set. The sentiments are gorgeous and match perfectly with the look I was trying to create.
And so I stamped the "You are so beautiful to me" sentiment using Marina Mist ink on a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock and used the Triple Banner Punch to create a flag. Once again I daubed around the edges and on the sentiment piece in Sahara Sand to vintage it up. For the inside sentiment, I used the "Life is better with friends" sentiment again from the Just add text stamp set using Marina Mist ink and I added another tulip. And I vintaged it up again using a sponge dauber and Sahara Sand ink around the edges of the card mat.
Then I began putting together my card. I offset the two Very Vanilla mats in diagonal corners on the Soft Sky mat attaching them using Tear n tape. I decided my card needed some embellishment and used Burlap ribbon across the top of this mat and then attached this piece to the Marina Mist card base using Tear n tape. I added the Tulip mat to another Marina Mist mat also daubed around the edges in Sahara Sand ink. I then added this mat piece to the card using Stampin' Dimensionals. I used my Bone folder to burnish and give the sentiment flag some movement and flow and attached it across the lower section of the tulips using Stampin' Dimensionals.
During my Catalogue Launch I took the three Tranquil Tulips card I made that morning and showed them to the ladies. I told them this one was my absolute favourite and my cousin piped up and said she would have that one for her birthday, thank you very much. And of course she will! I created it thinking she would love it and she does. I don't have any sisters, but I am very fortunate to have two cousins whom I consider sisters and this cousin is one of them! This is for you, Jules.
