Project Recipe
Cut cardstock and designer paper pieces to the following sizes using a Paper Trimmer:
- card from Early Espresso Cardstock at 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and scored at 4-1/4" and then cut in a later step
- 4" x 5-1/4" from Whisper White or Basic White Cardstock
- 2-1/2" x 4" of dark wood planks design from In Good Taste Designer Series Paper, cut so the planks are horizontal on the horizontal rectangle
- 2 pieces each 4" square from Real Red Cardstock
- 4" square from Whisper White or Basic White Cardstock
- 1-1/2" square from Real Red Cardstock
- scrap of Whisper White or Basic White Cardstock
Insert the unfolded Early Espresso card into the Paper Trimmer so the 8-1/2" long bottom edge of the card is on the 2-3/4" line printed along the top of the trimmer cutting surface. Use the cutting blade on the trimmer to cut from the bottom edge of the 5-1/2" side (the right edge of the card when folded closed) to the score line. Remove the card from the Paper Trimmer.
Fold the card along the score line. You should have two flaps on the front of the card.
Use Paper Snips to cut the top flap loose from the card by cutting along the score line. Keep the cut off rectangle of Early Espresso Cardstock to use on another project.
Mount the "Happy Valentine's Day" sentiment from the Meant To Be Set on Block B. Ink it up with the Real Red Ink Pad. Stamp it in the center of the large white rectangle about 1-1/4" from the top edge.
Adhere the sentiment stamped white rectangle to the inside of the back panel of the Early Espresso card.
Adhere the rectangle of In Good Taste Designer Paper to the small flap on the bottom front of the card.
Pick out the large, open, scallop-edged heart die that cuts out a heart that is 3-3/16" wide from the Stitched Be Mine Dies. Place the heart die on top of one of the Real Red squares on a platform on your Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine. Run through the machine. Use the Take Your Pick Die Brush Tip and paper-piercing tool on the Take Your Pick to remove the pieces. Keep the die out.
Tip: This die cuts out the center heart shape which you are using on this project. It also cuts out a thin, scallop-edged heart frame. Make sure you remove the scallop-edged heart frame from the die and throw it away.
Place the large, open, scallop-edged heart die that cuts out a heart that is 3-3/16" wide on top of the other Real Red square on a platform on your Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine.
Pick out the large, open, scallop-edged heart die that cuts out a heart that is 1-7/8" wide from the Stitched Be Mine Dies. Place this smaller heart die on top of the red cardstock square on a platform on your Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine so it is centered inside the bigger heart die.
Run through the machine. Use the Take Your Pick Die Brush Tip and paper-piercing tool on the Take Your Pick to remove the pieces.
You are using the large red heart with a smaller scalloped heart cut out of the center on this project. Keep the smaller heart cut out to use on another project if you wish.
Keep the large heart die out.
Tip: Both of these dies cut out the center heart shapes. They also cut out thin, scallop-edged heart frames. Make sure you remove the scallop-edged heart frames from the dies and throw them away.
Mount the donkey holding a rose image from the Darling Donkeys Set on Block I. Ink it up with the Memento Pad. Stamp it on the large white square in the center so the donkeys feet almost touch the bottom edge of the square.
Place the large, open, scallop-edged heart die that cuts out a heart that is 3-3/16" wide on top of the donkey image square on a platform on your Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine so the donkey is centered side to side and the feet are just inside the bottom of the heart (the feet may get cut off a bit). Run through the machine. Use the Take Your Pick Die Brush Tip and paper-piercing tool on the Take Your Pick to remove the pieces.
Tip: This die cuts out the center heart shape which you are using on this project. It also cuts out a thin, scallop-edged heart frame. Make sure you remove the scallop-edged heart frame from the die and throw it away.
Tip: Save the scrap of white cardstock square with the heart cut out of it to use as the scrap of white cardstock for the sentiment in a later step.
Put the donkey heart cut out on some Grid Paper to protect your work surface. You need to make sure that you protect your work surface with paper as the Stampin' Blends Markers do bleed through.
Use the Dark and Light Real Red Stampin' Blends to color in the rose.
Use the Dark and Light Granny Apple Green Stampin' Blends to color in the stem and leaf on the rose.
Use the Light Real Red Stampin' Blends to color in the insides of the donkey's ears.
Use the Dark and Light Soft Suede and Dark and Light Crumb Cake Stampin' Blends to color in the rest of the donkey. Leave his teeth white. You don't have to worry about coloring his hooves as they will be hidden.
Use the Color Lifter Stampin' Blends if needed to remove excess color.
Use Fine-Tip Glue Pen or Multipurpose Liquid Glue to adhere the large red heart cut out with the scalloped heart cut out of the center over the top of the colored donkey heart cut out so the edges line up and the donkey shows through the scalloped heart cut out in the center of the red heart.
Put small pieces of Tear & Tape Adhesive on the back of the layered heart cut outs on the bottom of the heart. Do NOT let the adhesive go above 1" from the bottom of the heart.
Remove the protective backings from the Tear & Tape pieces and adhere the layered heart cut outs to the bottom front flap of card in the center so the top of the hearts is about 5/8" from the top of the card. Make sure no adhesive is above the bottom flap of the card front or the card won't open.
Open the card. Adhere the solid red heart cut out to the back of the other heart cut outs already adhered to the card front so the edges match up.
Close the card.
Pick out the small, open, stitched and scallop-edged heart die that cuts out a heart that is 1-1/16" wide from the Stitched Be Mine Dies. Place the heart die on top of the small Real Red square on a platform on your Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine. Run through the machine. Use the Take Your Pick Die Brush Tip and paper-piercing tool on the Take Your Pick to remove the pieces.
Use a Stampin' Dimensional to adhere the small heart cut out at a slight angle to the front of the card so it overlaps the bottom of the layered red and white donkey heart on the lower left side.
Mount the "Hee haw!" sentiment from the Darling Donkeys Set on Block G. Ink it up with the Real Red Ink Pad. Stamp it on the scrap of white cardstock.
Use Paper Snips to cut out the sentiment by hand.
Use Mini Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere the sentiment cut out to the front of the card so the left edge tucks under the small heart cut out on the right side and the sentiment overlaps the bottom right side of the large, layered red and white donkey heart.
Use the mini spatula on the Take Your Pick to carefully peel up a white heart from a sheet of Resin Hearts making sure that you get the adhesive backing as well. Adhere it to the center of the small red heart cut out.
Cut a 5" piece of the Real Red 1/8" Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon from the Playful Pets Trim Combo Pack.
Fold the ribbon in half. Tie a half knot in the center of the folded ribbon. Trim the ends.
Use a Mini Glue Dot to adhere the ribbon knot at an angle to the front of the card so it is in the space where the bottoms of the heart cut outs and the left side of the sentiment cut out meet.
